krýsuvík Iceland

Ancient manor south of Kleifarvatn.
..It was deserted in the last century and is now owned by Hafnarfjörður town. In the beginning, Krýsuvík town stood a little west of a creek that is now called Hælsvík but may have been called Krýsuvík in ancient times. The town took off when the Augmund lava flowed over much of the earth's vegetation. However, some of the ruins of the town are still visible in Húshólm. There, you can drive on four-wheel drive vehicles and walk partially. Geothermal area is high in Krýsuvíkurland near Seltún. There has been drilling for steam and it has been discussed to harness the steam power for Hafnarfjordur or other surrounding regional law. The results were poorer than expected and experiments ceased around 1950. The Queen's cave, which was about 230 m deep, was blocked in the fall of 1999 and exploded ten days later. By this, a crater was formed about 30 m in diameter. Sulfur mining was there for a while and the sulfur was transported to Hafnarfjordur from abroad.
